Homework Expectations

Second Graders have weekly homework packets. The packets are sent home on Mondays and are due Friday. Homework is important because it teaches responsibility and provides needed practice of the skills necessary in second grade. The students should do their Math sheets one a day because it corresponds to the lesson taught daily in class.

** NEW** Fresh Fruits and Veggies in the Classroom

Dear Parents,

Your child’s school is one of nine St. Paul elementary schools awarded a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) USDA grant. The grant is administered by Minnesota Department of Education and coordinated by Nutrition Services.

Starting on March 16, a fresh fruit or vegetable snack will be provided for all students in your school. The Goal of the FFVP is to:

· Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices

· Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience

· Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption

· Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health

Snacks will be eaten in the classroom at a time chosen by the classroom teacher. Children will be encouraged to try the fruit or vegetable snack each day, but they may opt to not participate if they do not like or cannot eat the fruit or vegetable that day. If you have any questions about this program, please contact your school principal or cafeteria supervisor.
